Art in the Park Community Arts is excited to share good news. Director Jessica Levine has been chosen as a recipient of the prestigious Black Rock Arts Foundation grant award. This award is designed to help the chosen artist actualize a creative vision. This will help to make the Art in the Park's 2009 Pollinator Appreciation summer program possible.
We are pleased to invite the community to a series of fun, free of charge, open to all, hands-on art and gardening activities this summer to learn about pollination, a process essential to our food supply, and to celebrate National Pollinator Week, June 22 to 28. Environmental education activities will be happening all around the area, including Farmers Markets in Ronceverte and Lewisburg, and impromptu locations.
What will happen? A bicycle/ sculpture that illustrates pollination is the highly portable centerpiece of community art-making activities. The gardening aspect of the program is focused on creating butterfly gardens with native plants. The first event will be held on June 11, from 11 AM to 1 PM. Amy McIntire of Enchanters' Garden Nursery, Hinton will lead "Create a Butterfly Garden" at 208 Holt Lane, Lewisburg. Art activities will start on Saturday, June 20, from 10 to 11 AM at the Lewisburg Farmers' Market led by Caroline Smith. This mixed-media hands-on art activity is appropriate for participants of all ages and called "Bumblebuzz: an art project to study pollination".
